Our Goals

* To collaboratively grow food at the Canmore Community Garden sustainably and showcase a wildlife-safe garden in the mountains.

What is Wildlife Safe Gardening?

Wildlife is a serious concern to growing food in Canmore as we share the valley with bears, deer, elk, coyotes, and rabbits. As a result, this garden is unlike other community gardens.

From our early consultations, we have a few guidelines that help us coexist peacefully with our wild neighbours:

• Wildlife fencing! 8′ high at the community garden

• A perimeter planting of perennials and shrubs that don’t attract animals

• We only compost garden waste

• We do not grow fruit bearing plants

• We ensure timely harvest of garden vegetables
